Polydeism?
In his Dialogs Concerning Natural Religion, David Hume mentions the likelihood that our world could have been designed by more than one deity. (Whether Hume believed in any deity is hotly debated.)
I've considered this as a real possibility. Have any of you? Does this make a believer in this concept a Polydeist?
Hume also suggested the Universe could have been created by an evil or infant god, or perhaps this was God's first try. This is similar to the Gnostic concept of demiurge.
I believe Hume gave these scenarios tongue-in-cheek. But have any Deists come to such a conclusion? Has evidence led anyone to the possibilty that God is a screwup?
Or pehaps there is a place and purpose for chaos and evil in the big picture of life?
Would Thomas Paine be a "monodeist" since he claimes belief in one God? I really don't think it should matter. Just call it deism. We really can't know if there is one God, twenty gods, or even possibly no god.
Too true.
And let's not go into Arsedeism. That one's just a bunch of air.
Is that the belief that a buttox farted the universe into existence?
